How to show a man you are interested

Recently I was told by my single clients that I should become a dating coach.   Whoever thought that just giving a friend a good confidence boost would turn into a possible career?  I have always been the girlfriend that tries to guide my friends in the right direction and build their confidence level.  Sometimes I don't even know I'm doing it.  I once had on friend who dedicated a book he wrote to me and I had a young mother tell me that when she got pregnant she decided that she wanted to be just like me as a mother.  No higher complement comes to you than that and I was so humbled by those two people.  So that is why I have decided to take on that task.  I have been working with a client of mine that has tried everything she could to catch that special man.  I have given her so much great advice and she sees how my relationship with my boyfriend Tony is.  She really likes the things she has sees and hears.  I am working with her to create a life that she is having fun with and now we are going the extra mile.  Meet your new 50ShadzOfSexy Dating Coach.

I'm loving this new addition to my company.  Here is my first bit of advice for you ladies who aren't sure about how to let a man know you are interested.
How to Flirt with a Man:
  • Show him special attention. This one is exactly the same for men as it is for women. The woman should put herself in the presence of a man as much as possible without making it obvious that she is doing so. Just like a man flirting with a woman, it is a delicate balance and needs to be handled carefully.
  • Flirt with more than just your physical appearance. Guys are certainly much more visually stimulated than girls are, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t attracted to other aspects of a woman’s personality. In fact, guys are paying attention to how she acts in a variety of scenarios. The best thing a woman can do while in the presence of a man is to flirt with all of who she is (her physical appearance included) by being herself. Women who flirt with their bodies get exactly what they go fishing for: men who are only interested in the woman’s body.
    • For example: If you are really good at hospitality, make sure a guy gets to see you in your element, enjoying making people feel at home and loved. If you are athletic, make sure he sees you playing the sport you love. If you enjoy being active in helping others, be sure he has the chance to observe you simply being yourself in areas you are comfortable in. Chances are you will not only catch his attention, but also inspire him as well.
    • Flirting with one’s character requires the woman to be secure in who she is to begin with. If a man notices that the woman is at all pretending to be something she is not just to get his attention – she’s busted.

What Not To Wear After 50: The Final Word by Michelle Poston Combs

I came across an article on the internet that I really want to share with my readers.  The article is titled "What Not To Wear After 50: The Final Word." You are going to love this article. I couldn't have picked a better article that I truly believe in.
"What Not To Wear After 50: The Final Word"
Google 'what not to wear after age 50' and you will have your pick of thousands of articles telling you what looks terrible on your old ass body.
I want to point out to the writer who wrote the 'no-no' article, you need to remember you are writing for over 50 women, not preschoolers. I don't think I've said 'no-no' since my youngest was a toddler.
We could spend hours studying the clothes we shouldn't wear and the slang we shouldn't use and the makeup techniques we need to retire.
Here's me, weighing in on this topic.
You are over 50 for fuck's sake. Wear whatever you want. If you've made it to 50 and still need to consult articles on how to dress appropriately then you are so missing out on one of the best things about being over 50. One of the best things about getting older is realizing that we don't have to spend our energy worrying what other people think and we get to be comfortable in our own skin with our own freak flags.
Still, there are a few things that women over 50 really shouldn't wear:
1. The weight of the world.
When you wear the weight of the world on your shoulders, you age. If you like the feel of the world's weight and don't want to give it up, then try scaling back a bit. Perhaps just wear the weight of a few of the smaller continents. For instance, I am only wearing the weight of Australia and a made up country called 'Michelloponia'. I think it they have a slimming effect.
2. Shame and regret.
So few people can carry this look off. Most of us just end up looking haunted or like we were forced to eat liver and onions. Shame and regret are especially hard to wear after fifty. Wearing shame and regret past fifty is one of those things that make your eyes all red and runny looking. The downward spiral just snowballs from there. Once the eyes get old lady looking, then you have to re-evaluate the wisdom of black eye liner. I say give up wearing shame and regret and fuck giving up on black eye liner.
3. Rose-colored glasses.
Oh, sweetheart, you know who you are. Those glasses do nothing for you. Not only do they make you look like you've been smoking weed for days, they also keep you from examining life and your surroundings realistically. Yes, reality sucks, but by the time we hit fifty, we need to suck it up, take those glasses off and dick punch reality into submission. Or just get some really big dark sunglasses instead. They cover all manner of sins.
4. Stiff upper lip.
There is a time and a place for the stiff upper lip, but damn, it can't be worn all the time. Too much stiff upper lip causes those funky vertical lines between your upper lip and your nose holes. We don't always have to be stoic. I'm not suggesting that you wear your heart on your sleeve, but that is a much softer look than wearing a stiff upper lip.
5. Too many hats.
Personally, I can't pull off wearing one hat, much less many hats. I don't have a hat head. My hair poofs out and my ears look like car doors when I wear a hat. Wearing too many hats just exacerbates these issues. When you wear too many hats, it's easy to forget which hat you're wearing. For instance, are you wearing the "no nonsense corporate" hat when you meant to wear your "quirky and kicked back" hat? We're not getting any younger, you know. Sooner or later you're going to accidentally wear your court jester hat to the gynecologist and then where will you be? I'll tell you where you'll be. You'll be in an undignified position and wearing a stupid hat is where you'll be.
6. Resting bitch face.
Hahahahaha. Just kidding. Wear that one all you want. Although, it wouldn't hurt if every once in a while, you had a welcoming and kind look on your face. At least that's what I hear from other people.
There isn't anything wrong with getting advice about updating your look or what to wear, but we are just inundated with that shit, aren't we?
Who says what is appropriate? From where I sit, it seems 'appropriate' changes based on geography, social status, income and size. After a while, the advice becomes a confusing blur. I think I'll just keep wearing my Keds and jeans and black tee shirts.
Oh, I do have one real tip. Stop wearing holiday theme clothes. Seriously.

How Dare I

“This is our big chance to see what people think of us. The real us. We have to show em there's nothing to be afraid of. If we don't get over our fears, they never will.”
― Lisi HarrisonMonster High

How Dare I put myself out here to my followers and present myself as a sexy 50 year old women.  Where do I get the nerve or as I would tell you the courage to tell you how to be like me, how to look like me and why to have confidence like a boss.  I will tell you why.  I didn't grow up with a positive influence or even a loving family.  I grew up to have my family and friends tell me that I was not good enough to be smart, strong, confident and gorgeous.  I was that girl that you looked at and said, she has it all, but I didn't.  I came upon all that I have by not believe the truth of all others (weather good or bad), but I believed in my truth.  My truth is that I am worthy of being strong, beautiful and confident.

I believe in my  truth everyday, every hour and every minute of the day.  I once had a boyfriend tell me that I was not the most beautiful women in the world, I looked at him and said, "It felt great to say that didn't it".  His story was different then mine and I knew that.  I had that much confidence in myself to focus on the person he was and not believe his lie.  Later on he told me that it got a little much for his confidence to continue to hear my truth.
I wanted to share this Truth blog post today to let people know that in the year 2015 50ShadesOfSexy will be posting the journey that bought me to who I am today and how you too can also take your story and make it positive and sexy.  Happy New Year my beautiful and Sexy friends.

My first 50ShadesOfSexy post: (Are you ever too old to send a sexy selfie?)

We see them on Instagram, we see them on Facebook and we see them on tweeter.  Those sexy selfies that the young girls/women share for the world to see.  I like the fact that the younger generation loves their bodies and want to share them for the world, but sometimes it is a little too much.  Now as more mature women, we really do think about our kids and business associates and that maybe why we don’t share our great confidence with the world or are we a little too shy to share ourselves with the world?  Maybe it’s because we think that the world does not want to see us or is it that we get so intimidated by the young girls/women who have the amazing bodies.
You don't have to go completley nude in sending a picture to your man.

Well that does not go for your girl Kat.  Yes I said it.  I am not afraid to share the fact that I work hard to keep it together and my boyfriend loves to see it when he is out of town.  Let’s get to the story of how your girl came to share a few pictures with her boyfriend and not go too far.
A little black and white can be very sexy to him

And the story goes like this:
One night I’m setting around working on ThriftyGurl Boutique after a hard day of working out all day.  I get a call from my boyfriend and he wants me to send him a picture of me in some sexy boots he purchased for me.  Well that night I was SO tired and I didn’t really want to get up out of my bed and get dressed to send a picture of myself to him (sounds familiar right?).  I thought about it for a while and my mind started to race.  What if he sees a girl/women at the hotel that is wearing those same exact boots (whore)?  What if one of his past girlfriends just wanted to reach out to him and send him something to remind him of what he had (and ladies it does happen)?  Or just what if he just missed me so much and loved me so much that the only person that would feel the void of what he is feeling was me?  Well ladies this is where we go wrong.  We think so damn much when we should just get our asses out of the bed and make our man happy before he finds someone at the bar that is more than willing to do it for us.  It’s not like he is asking us to build a house or have another baby at 50.  At that point I got my little butt up and put on those boots, slipped on a school girl mini, mini, mini skirt and put on that sexy bra and did my sexy thing.
Well ladies needless to say my man loved the pictures.  He was so happy that the last image that he say that night was a few pictures of me in something that he bought for me and I was confident to wear for him.
So lesson #1 in this blog post is, don’t drop the ball when it comes to satisfying your man’s needs when he is out of town.  A man gets lonely and misses his family and his women so PLEASE women, what is so wrong about being that girlfriend you were when he first met you.
Keep it simple

I Love Wearing A Bikini At 50 - How About You?

So I just turned 50 years old in June of this year and it seems that I have done some major traveling to the tropics.  I've noticed something that made me ask the questions, How old is to old to wear a two piece bathing suit?  Well the answer I gave myself was this.  You are never to old to wear a two piece bathing suit.  I have noticed a trend since I have been traveling.  Women who are young and old even women who are not in the best shape haven been sporting two piece bathing suits.  Now, sometimes you will see a women who has absolutely no room to wear a bikini, but I have to tell you, I think a women who is that bold to wear a bikini and not be in the best of shape gets my vote on confidence.  I've spoken to a few women of my age and they told me that wearing a bikini is a lot more comfortable that a one piece.  I have to agree.  A bikini does give more comfort that a one piece.  It is also so damn sexy.

I have on this very sexy Victoria Secret pink bikini that really shapes the body.  It firms the chest and brings in the stomach.

Here I thought I would wear the Stars and Strips bikini.  As you can see, the bottoms of both suits are tied on each side.  I think it gave me more room to show off my hips and curves. I think being over 35 can give you a lot of room to experiment with different looks.  You can still be sexy with the right swim suit.

Here I'm wearing a a strapless red bikini top with a plum color bottom.  The top is padded for more support and again the bottom ties at each side.  Really makes for a sexy look on me.  My body shape is athletic so I can get away with wearing either strapless or halter.  Ladies don't be afraid to experiment with your suits.  Happy summer.

Can Women Over 35 Still Wear Shorts?

Can women over 30 years old wear shorts?  Well, I'm just going to share my opinion on this topic.  One of my first memories of my mother is when I noticed that she would wear short shorts with high heels.  Now I know it was in the 60's and 70' and to be honest even the 80's, but I would always think to myself, isn't she uncomfortable wearing those heels.  I do think that I probably focused on the shorts but didn't really understand what exactly I was noticing since she was a mother figure.  I personally love the fact 50 is the new 30 and that now older women as myself can pull off the shorts with the heel situation.  Fashion has gotten so creative that if you do keep yourself looking youthful, you can get away with the whole shorts and heels fashion.  As long as you keep it classy, does anyone really care?

As you can see in my pictures, I really have kept it classy.  I think that this is a good length for my age and the shoes don't really overpower the shorts.  I paired the shorts with a Max Mara top I purchased at a thrift store for around $10.00.
I also wanted to put a few accessories like this great bracelet watch I purchased at a thrifty store for $6.00.  It is silver with a double wrap chain.  As you can see I also put a simple swarovski crystal black and white ring on.  Enjoy

Fashion at the Lake

Oh it's March and the weather here in Virginia goes from cold to hot to hot to cold and so on.  One day we get 9 inches of snow and the next day might be in the 60's.  Well this was a good day to take advantage of the nice 60 degree weather.

I visited the lake and thought that I would pull out a top that I don't really wear very often.  This black top was purchased at a great boutique in Maryland National Harbor a few years ago.  It was rather pricing, but it is a piece is not dated.

I don't usually wear big chunky jewelry, but today I wanted to experiment with this great chunky necklace I bought from a thrift store for around $2.99.  You have seen my jeans a few times.  They to were purchased at a thrift store for around $7.99 with 25% off.  My heels are Jessica Simpson's.  They are a five inche heel that were a steal at Lord & Taylor.

And what do we have here?  A MCM authentic purse I purchased at www.shopgoodwill.com for $150.00.  I had to get up at the crack of dawn in order to get it for that price.  The handbag usually runs for $1,500.00.   I really love this look.  Sun, fun and style.  That is a touch of elegance.

Make Sequins Your Everyday Choice

Day time and sequins.  How do can we pull it off you ask?  Well here we go.  People usually fear wearing sequins in the day time and none holidays, but I say sequins can really bring out the diva in you everyday.  This blue DNKY sequins top is proof of that ans it is so chic with these distressed jeans and simple pair of shoes.  Pairing this top with jeans doesn't make you look like you are overdoing it.  I just see it as a glorified t-shirt.  I could actually put a great sweater of blazer over it, but I just couldn't do this top a disservice by hiding it.  So don't be afraid to brighten up your day with this great staple SEQUIN.

The Benefits Of Wearing a Vintage Wedding Gown

Here comes the bride all dressed in white.  Well what about if you have been married a few times and your waited for Mr. Right in your late 40's?  What to wear?  What to wear?  Traditionally older brides have a tendency to wear a skirt or pantsuit, but things have changes so much.  Look at those beautiful housewives of what ever state is on at the moment.  They are wearing gowns that are young and sexy, but there are so many other brides, young and old, that are wearing the traditional vintage attire.  Take this vintage gown that still has that sexy and flirty look to it.  All the detail that surrounds the arms and the neck.  I really love the way it photographs and that is tre' important.  This is an amazing vintage gown that can be wore by the young and mature alike.  Sure you might say, Kat you don't really look you age, so you can carry it.  Come on people, this is vintage.  It's made to fit and flatter any women.  The waste is flared out and the top is covered very well.  Not only is vintage tailored well but the one of a kind look in amazing.  This gown was made in the 1960's and is still timeless.  It can even be redesigned and still keep that vintage style in tacked.

There are many advantages in purchasing  a vintage wedding gown is that you can save so much money.  Vintage gowns usually less expensive than a modern gown.  You can also search thrift stores and antique stores to find some great gowns.  Another advantage in wearing a vintage wedding gown, is they are one of a kind.  This dress is like no other.  The lace is positioned so perfectly.  The materials are so soft and elegant.  It is in perfect condition.  Enjoy

I Don't Like To Eat Them, But They Make Those Puffy Eyes Look Amazing

I love the fact that when people find out that I will be 50 years old this June, they can't believe it.  It makes my day when my children get a little uncomfortable when a man looks at their mama, because that's what we live for right?  Just kidding kids.  I do have a lot of secrets I would like to share with you but this one is sooooo amazing.  When I turned 49 I looked in the mirror and said "I still have it", but as the days when by I noticed that I had dark circle under my eyes.  Oh no I said.  Not me.  I thought I would look 30 forever.  I had some serious dark circles under my eyes with a hint of puffy eyes.  I was determined to get those puffy dark circles from under my eyes.  I didn't like the fact that I look so tired and worn out.  My spirit was still so young and I wanted to look that way.  I tried everything.  I tried under eye creams and youth lotions.  Some of them were good, but not for the eyes.  I googled all kinds of things that might help.  I finally decided that maybe I would get surgery one day.  Than I decided to try a natural remedy that has been out there for years.  Cucumbers.  Yes that old cucumber trick.  Cucumbers have a cooling remedy that I heard about, but I also read on the Internet that they didn't work, but I wanted to try them anyway, but to much disappointment they didn't work.  I decided that maybe if I would freeze them it might work a little better and Pow, they came through for me.  I have a great routine that I do every morning and the most important part are my frozen cucumbers.  They have made my eyes look so amazing.  My dark circle have disappeared and my eyes are not puffy.  As you can see from the picture above, my eyes look energized and fresh.

Here is the recipe for my eye beauty routine:

  • Slice cucumbers in a shape that fits your eyes.  Cut circles first and than cut in halves.
  • Put cucumbers in freezer overnight
  • Put your regular cleaner on your face, but don't wash cleanser off
  • Put frozen cucumbers under each eye for about 3 minutes while cleanser is still on
  • After taking cucumbers off your under eyes will be red from the cold
  • Wash face with lukewarm water to get reed of redness under the eyes
  • Use a good under eye cream and put a little bit of the cucumber juice under the eyes like a toner.

Clip in Extensions - Are they for you?

Clip in Extensions- Are they for you?

For years and years I have been wearing that wonderful full head of weave.  I've had the worst of hair and the greatest of hair sewn in my head.  It made my hair grow, but it also made it break off.  The last time I took my weave out, I discovered that I have the hair that I always wanted.  Curly and thick.  I decided then that enough was enough.  I vow that I will only wear a weave if on vacation.  The reason being, is that I have discovered a new way to make my hair healthy, long and manageable.  I have discovered the world of CLIP IN EXTENT IONS.   I would see them on the white girls and thought that maybe they would not be a good idea for us women of color.  Once I tried them I was hooked.
Look how amazing and natural they look.  They are not bulky and you can do almost anything with them.  You can put your hair up in a bun or even use them to wear different styles.  They make you hair fuller and adds length.  My hair is about down to my shoulders and they blend in great.
I use about one package of 7 or so.  The only thing that I haven't gotten down to a science is that you really have to clean them with care.  I would use the same products on  my extensions that i would use on my own hair and it didn't work.  I went to my hair stylist and she had mentioned to me that shampoo hurts the hair and she only uses non sulfate products on my hair.  I loved the way my hair shined after she washed it, so I got the bright idea to use a non sulfate shampoo on my extensions.  The results were amazing.  I get the best of both worlds.  My hair stylist is taking care of my natural hair every other week, I can be more versatile with my extensions and you can buy a pack for just over $100.00.

Fall Into Fashion - You Know You Want To

So summer is over (Noooo) and the kids are back in school (Yes).  Now what?  We had so much fun wearing all that great fun, sexy and chic fashion from ThriftyGurl.  Oh don't get to sad, here is why.  I am so excited about the finds that I get for the fall season.  I want my winter to be colorful and this is an example in how to stay fresh for the winter.  This is such a great wool dress I found for pennies.  It has such great stitching.  See that laced bow at the top of the dress and those great faux pockets also made of lace.  Still so sexy and chic.  The color is great.  A light pink so winter wont' be so drab.  I put my usual clear heels with this, but you can wear the dress with some great pink pumps or multi-color pumps.  You can also try this dress with some black heels.  Enjoy
