Clip in Extensions - Are they for you?

Clip in Extensions- Are they for you?

For years and years I have been wearing that wonderful full head of weave.  I've had the worst of hair and the greatest of hair sewn in my head.  It made my hair grow, but it also made it break off.  The last time I took my weave out, I discovered that I have the hair that I always wanted.  Curly and thick.  I decided then that enough was enough.  I vow that I will only wear a weave if on vacation.  The reason being, is that I have discovered a new way to make my hair healthy, long and manageable.  I have discovered the world of CLIP IN EXTENT IONS.   I would see them on the white girls and thought that maybe they would not be a good idea for us women of color.  Once I tried them I was hooked.
Look how amazing and natural they look.  They are not bulky and you can do almost anything with them.  You can put your hair up in a bun or even use them to wear different styles.  They make you hair fuller and adds length.  My hair is about down to my shoulders and they blend in great.
I use about one package of 7 or so.  The only thing that I haven't gotten down to a science is that you really have to clean them with care.  I would use the same products on  my extensions that i would use on my own hair and it didn't work.  I went to my hair stylist and she had mentioned to me that shampoo hurts the hair and she only uses non sulfate products on my hair.  I loved the way my hair shined after she washed it, so I got the bright idea to use a non sulfate shampoo on my extensions.  The results were amazing.  I get the best of both worlds.  My hair stylist is taking care of my natural hair every other week, I can be more versatile with my extensions and you can buy a pack for just over $100.00.

Fall Into Fashion - You Know You Want To

So summer is over (Noooo) and the kids are back in school (Yes).  Now what?  We had so much fun wearing all that great fun, sexy and chic fashion from ThriftyGurl.  Oh don't get to sad, here is why.  I am so excited about the finds that I get for the fall season.  I want my winter to be colorful and this is an example in how to stay fresh for the winter.  This is such a great wool dress I found for pennies.  It has such great stitching.  See that laced bow at the top of the dress and those great faux pockets also made of lace.  Still so sexy and chic.  The color is great.  A light pink so winter wont' be so drab.  I put my usual clear heels with this, but you can wear the dress with some great pink pumps or multi-color pumps.  You can also try this dress with some black heels.  Enjoy

My Beauty Routine For My Skin

People always get surprised when I tell them that I have three sons and the oldest one is 26.  They look so surprised and what goes through my mind is "Do they think I had the boys at a young age".  I proceed to let them know that I just turned 49 in June.  They get even more surprised.  I like the look of surprise and it makes me want to continue to get that type of attentions ( can you say vain?)  I have a few secrets that I would like to share with you.

I have a routine that I live by:

  • First, I have to say stress if a big part of making yourself looking older.  I am a Buddist and I have learned how to handle stress very well.
  • Second, my routine in the morning is to wipe my face with a sensitive makeup remover wipe and then use a cleaner like, La Mer or a Dermalogica cleaner.  I than use a toner (Dermalogica) and use a mosterizer (La Mer or Dermalogiac),  I do this every day and my face really feels and looks great.
  • At night I do use a makeup remover and than a cleanser and mousterizer(La Mer or Dermalogica)
  • I don't drink a lot of water and that is something that I think would really help (bad me).
  • Exercise is very important.  I have a job that is great for that.  I work with a company that teaches pre-school children physical fitness.  So I am working out around 2 to 2 1/2 hours a day.
La Mer is a very expensive facial Line, but it is such a great investment.  You will spend around $400.00 for all the products
Dermalogica is less expensive.  It runs for the whole kit around $150.00.

Sexy Peather - It Really Does Look Fly

Peather or leather, You decide.  I love this one shouldered dress with that sheer sexy look as well as the peather material.  I got so many likes on instagram I couldn't resist posting a blog on this dress.  As you can see at the shoulder and the stomach, it is made of sheer black materials.  I know that that trend of one shoulder didn't go to far, but how can you not want to get this amazing piece.  So sexy and fly.  Sun glasses purchased for $12.00.  Enjoy

COLOR BLOCK OUR BEST FRIEND?????????

Yes, I said it.  Color block is our best friend.  This color bock little pink number was purchased at the Salvation Army for $7.99.  I am loving this look.  I really like the fact that this dress has that color block to help my shape look a little more toned.  This dress is short but not revealing.  I love the two pinks in the dress.  The materials are so soft and vibrant to the touch.   I paired it with a great purse I purchase at a estate sale for $10.00 in Chevy Chase Maryland.  The purse is two tone silver and gold which of course goes with everything.  Enjoy

Sequin Top Made into a skirt - What the What

Yes you read the title correct.  This amazing sequin skirt is a sequin tank top.  I really didn't think that it was very flattering as a top, so I worn it as a skirt.  I'm 49 years old and even I couldn't pull this one off as a top.  Yes I do love the 60's and I was born in the 60's, but again I'm not trying  to look 20.  I paired this skirt with a green blouse I bought years ago, but never really wear ( I will now).  I love the color on me as well.  I would introduce you to my clear shoes, but you have met them so many times before.  I love this look and posted it on instagram and within minutes, got 45 like.  Go Kat

Weather black lace or white lace, you obtain the look of innocence.  I have two different colors and styles of lace.  The one is a mini little black dress with a hint of peather.  Lined and sexy is this dress.  I really like the fact that not only does it have that since of innocence, but also have a little fetish style with the peather belt.  I thought that it might be a little to youthful, but when I put it on, I really though that is fit my look.  I do like to put my hair in a bun with this look so my readers can focus on the outfit instead of me.

Now let's take this white laces tunic mini dress.  Still sexy with a hint of innocence.  I like the tunic style because it is a little more age appropriate.  The off white color can be worn in summer, spring and fall.  All body types can fits this little number.  I love how both of the dresses have the great laced sleeves.  I wear a lot of bracelets, so I was worried about if they would tear the sleeves and guess what,  It;s safe.  Great quality clothing is what you want, but people, don't forget that thrift stores are great for quality items at low prices.  Enjoy

Those Cut Out Dresses - Also For The Young At Heart

So you think just because us girls are over 40 we can't pull off that cut out dress.  Well here you have it.  This tangerine colored cut out mini is perfect for my body type and my age.  Not to form fitting and the length is perfect.  I wore some chuncky beige shoes I just purchased  to give it a little more style.  I love the fact that is  also cut appropriately at the neck.  So sexy but chic.  Enjoy

THAT'S ONE GREAT TUNIC

I can tell you that I have always wanted a grat tunic top.  I've looked for something for years that would fit my personality and here it is.  I love this blue and white tunic.  Purchased it at a thrift store and the price was just right.  I paired it with these great light weight jeans that I purchased years ago.  I love the layed back look that this tunic gives me.  I feel like going on the water with friends and having dinner. I like to keep it sexy so I unbuttoned all the buttons.  It falls right at the waist and has the great blue color to make sure it is cut off at the waist.  The cotton blend is so comfortable.  I look so chic is this outfit and it is a little different from what I usually post.  You can shop this look in my Poshmark Closet.  Enjoy

PUTTING EDGE INTO AGE

Pants thrifted shirt H&M
Yes you read it right.  I am a BIG DEAL and this outfit is just as big of a deal.  I wanted to get a little bold and try out some newspaper printed leggings.  They fit like pants so that don't have the thin cheap look that you see in stores.  Made from Milk Way (company).  The style is sexy but chic.  At 49 I still think that women my age can pull this look off.  Just make sure that you get a great quality printed pant and a age appropreate t-shirt that will fit your personality.  I love wearing the clear heels you always see me in.  I wanted to add this chunky bracelet for more of any edgy style.  My MCM designer purse fits great with this look.  Enjoy

CHEERS TO THAT LITTLE BLACK DRESS

He really liked this one.  Text "Baby I really like this dress"  Reply "Sexy as Hell".  That is what this little black dress can do for you.  Bought this piece at a little trendy type shop for only $7.99. So many possibilities with this dress.  I put a great vintage sequin belt around the waist so that I can add some chicness to the dress.  These dark shades make the dress a little Audrey Hapburnish.  I really like how this dress is form fitting, but takes about 10 lbs. off my figure.  Love Love Love this look.  He loves it to.  Can't wait for the weekend to see just how much he loves this dress.  Meow

VIBRANT BRIGHT COLORS MAKE YOUR FACE GLOW

As we get older we get a little timid  to experiment with vibrant colors.  I just turned 49 on June 18, 2013 and I feel 20 in this yellow top.   I think that putting vibrant colors together with prints will make a bold statement without looking like we are trying to hard.  Take this great vibrant yellow top with this stripped printed skirt.  I text this look to my boyfriend and he text me back and told me how great this color looks on me.I switched it up a little for the day and added some great orange skinny jeans with the yellow to and boon here you go.  I hardly ever pull out the yellow but believe you me, from now on I will work yellow as much as possible.   Ladies let's experiment more with color and make ourselves look younger,  vibrant, youthful and sexy.

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

Well here we go again another birthday for yours truley, ME.  I am slowly approaching 49 years old and an determined to stay youthful and sexy as is every women on the planet earth.  I think I've done a great job so far and I will be continuing to stay that way.  One way is of course dressing sexy with out looking like I'm trying to look like I'm in my 20's.

Now this outfit says wise, strong and confident.  I didn't want to just wear a pair of shorts with a tank so I made it pop with this designer inspired scarf.    I also wanted to add a little adventure to this outfit and added a leopard belt.  The heels are one of my favorite.  I believe that the only thing that shoes can do is to make you taller and slimmer.  I'm five foot four, but I look five foot seven.  Sorry Carrie (Sex in the City).   I also paired this great alligator/leather handbag to give the extra styish/chic look.  Loving that POP.  LIFE AS A THRIFTYGURL

Can You Say Vibrant Over sized Top With Linen White Capris?

I have had this over sized top for so long I wanted to see what I could do with it.  I thought that I had to sale it to someone who wore a extra large, but when the weather got warmer, I decided to pair the over sized top with my white linen Capri pants.  I love, love , love this outfit.  So vibrant and a little bold.  I think it is a chic way to add color and still keep it classy and appropriate.  Enjoy
